Being A Jerk While Black
Boston Red Sox pitcher Robert Person adds his name to the list of people who believe that their race is the cause of any negatives in their life. After blaring his car stereo at two in the morning and driving while on a cell phone (annoying regardless of what race you are), the Fort Meyers (FL) police pulled Person over. Instead of turning the stereo down (which is what I would have done), he went into an obscenity-laced tirade at the cop, blaming him for pulling over a black man with a nice ride. The irony here? The cop is also black. Person continued to talk on the phone, even as he was being arrested, ranting:
I’m going to have my day in court. You black (expletive.). You punk (expletive.) You pulled me over because I have a nice (expletive) ride. You pull me over because I’m black. I’ll have your (expletive), cat. I got your (expletive). (Expletive) you, (expletive-expletive) police. That’s the reason why I hate the police.
This isn’t Person’s first run-in with the law in Florida. Two years ago, police in Tampa ordered Person to walk away from a fight, and he instead decided to pursue the fight and attempted to kick in the windows of the police car. He was hogtied for his own safety. It’s not that you’re black, Robert, it’s that you’re a belligerent ass. And by the way, I’m sure the black community thanks you deeply for undermining the legitimacy of cases involving real racism.
